Weight-loss planning
We will start our plan by knowing your pet’s ideal weight. Many of our pets are overweight. This predisposes them to problems such as arthritis, diabetes, heart disease and others issues. Older pets, especially big breed dogs, can have their quality of life affected by being overweight. Some older dogs can have medical conditions, such as hypothyroidism, that make weight loss difficult. Overweight cats can have trouble grooming and may need more grooming attention. No matter what the cause, determining your pets “body condition score” (medical talk for assessing whether an animal is underweight or overweight) is an important part of your pet’s health care. Diet and exercise play a role in helping to maintain a proper weight and our recommendations will be based on the overall health and age of your pet.
